Building Officer

£13 - £14/hour

Job Summary: We are seeking to recruit a Building Officer who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and overseeing the maintenance of a Community Centre in conjunction with the buildings team and senior management.

To be responsible for and manage the security of the building (including all alarm systems) and external grounds in conjunction with the buildings and office team.

To ensure all staff are aware of the security procedures.

To act as key holder and be prepared to be called out in emergencies/during unsociable hours.

To ensure the closing and opening procedures for the building are followed.

To take necessary steps in the event of bad weather and/or emergencies, e.g. fire, flood, snow, break-in and entry, accidents, major damage, or disorder.

To cover the out of hours on call support for the Community Centre on a rota basis.

Maintenance

To be responsible for the general maintenance, inspections, and reporting keeping accurate logs as required and reporting repairs and general maintenance issues to Local authority and/or senior management and as appropriate. 

To oversee cleaning duties at the Community Centre including the external grounds.

To assist with the day-to-day management of contractors working within the building.

Health & Safety

To be responsible for ensuring a safe and clean working environment by adhering to all the relevant Health & Safety regulations.

To be responsible undertake daily/weekly visual checks and to record and report health & safety issues to the Local Authority and/or Senior Management.

To be responsible for undertaking health and safety risk assessments via the relevant system.

To be responsible for monthly checks of all first aid, and cleaning stock and to replenish stock as and when required.

To be responsible for undertaking fire alarm testing in line with legal requirements.

Bookings

To ensure hirers leave the building at the agreed booking times as per the bookings form.  

To take new booking enquiries for the Community Centre, following the bookings process and to add on to the booking system once confirmed.

To show any prospective hirers around the Community Centre making sure not to inconvenience groups already in session.

To assist senior management with the coordination of multiple use of facilities from time to time.

To be responsible for ensuring rooms are set up by the buildings team as per any additional requests on the booking form.

To carry out any financial duties efficiently and effectively in accordance with financial procedures. i.e. Calculation of hire fees, collection, receipting and returning of deposit imposed against a hirer.

Administration/IT

To ensure all documents such as signing in and out sheets, and daily/weekly/monthly logs are filed in a timely manner.

To ensure files and records are kept up to date for auditing and monitoring purposes. E.g. buildings logs, booking system etc.

To ensure the smooth running of the reception, by answering phone calls and transferring calls to relevant individuals as well as receiving visitors, ensuring signing in and out procedures are adhered to.

To photocopy and scan documents and plans as and when required.

Person specification

Essential

At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.

The ability to work flexibly to ensure the smooth running of the Community Centre, working occasional evenings and weekends, and to attend the centre at short notice.

Knowledge of health and safety and fire safety and ability to ensure all regulations are followed.Previous experience in bookings e.g venue hire, room hire.

A proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Previous maintenance experience in an office or community centre environment.

Previous experience of undertaking health and safety risk assessments.

Knowledge of basic security measures.

Educated to GCSE Grade ‘C’ or equivalent qualification.

Good numeracy skills.

Proficient IT skills including systems.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of key holding duties including fire and intruder alarms.
  • Previous experience within the care sector.
  • Previous experience of supervising a small team.
  • First Aid training
  • Fire Marshall training.
  • Full clean driving licence.

Hours: 37 hours per week - Flexible between 08:00am to 21:00pm (Site Based Role)
