Our client is a main contracting construction company that specialises in both new build and refurbishment projects. They work across all sectors and have established themselves as a go to contractor in this space.

On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Buyer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials required for construction projects. This role demands a strong understanding of the construction industry, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to work closely with project managers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with current suppliers and uphold strong working relationships
  • Place orders for materials, ensuring timely delivery to meet project schedules.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with site managers to forecast material requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability and quality.
  • Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends, new products, and pricing fluctuations.
  • Work with the preconstruction team to review and analyse project specifications and plans to determine material requirements.
  • Manage purchase orders, invoices, and delivery documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Collaborate with the project management team to address any material-related issues or changes in project scope.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of suppliers, identifying areas for improvement and cost savings.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Materials Buyer or Procurement Specialist within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, suppliers, and market conditions.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
