Our customer are a well-established M&E sevices consultancy who operate across London and the UK, and operate within the commercial built environment. Due to growth within the team, they seek a mechanical-bias Technical Associate to work within their projects division, involved in design and delivery of Cat A + B fit outs, plant replacement, energy efficency and optimisation of systems on behalf of customers who predominantly are managing agents and property firms. Working out of their central London office and with travel involved, the guideline salary for the role will vary depending on experience but circa £55-70,000 salary. In addition to salary is a travel card allowance, discretionary bonus and opportunity for training and personal development within the consultancy space.

Candidates must be fully qualified in mechanical engineering, ideally though a full apprenticeship, and ideally within at least three years of experience as a project engineer or manager within commercial building services / facilities management. Along with core qualifications, additional education such as HNC/HND/Degree, an experience working around Microsoft programs and AutoCAD is desirable.

This is a client-facing role, involving the successful candoidate to be a good communicator and possess the ability to work on own initiative, build relationships with clients, write clear and concise reports, present findings to clients. Have a detailed understanding of mechanical services in buildings, their operation and control including BMS.
 
Role Overview:
 
The business' Projects Division specialise in engineering services projects within existing buildings, with an extensive client list across some of the most prestigious buildings typically in the City, Canary Wharf and West End of London and other UK regions.
Work includes the preparation of a technical performance specification; compiling tender documentation; tender evaluations; arrange and conduct post tender review meetings; preparation of tender analysis reports; preparing contract documentation; procurement; project management; replacement projects. Providing strategic advice to building owners and Managing Agents; plan and optimise the performance of buildings, together with feedback in terms of long-term sustainability, energy use, maintenance and reliability.
 
Experience in:
 
Producing high quality reports with clear and concise recommendations.
Prepare Condition and Feasibility reports and provide strategic advice to clients.
Presenting technical information and providing clear communication to clients throughout a project.
Preparing performance technical specifications, drawings, and schedules with reference to the latest industry standards/best practice.
Evaluating tender submissions, arranging, and conducting post tender meetings with tenderers, and preparation of tender reports with recommendations.
Project management including preparation of contract documentation, chairing project meetings and managing project finances up to practical completion and handover.
Providing technical advisory consultancy and strategic advice.
Ensuring H&S and legislative compliance throughout the course of a project.
Financial management of project and ensuring works carried out within agreed budget and timescale.
Working within a multi-disciplinary projects team (Mechanical, Electrical, Vertical Transportation, Energy & Sustainability).
Develop and build professional relationships with clients and assist the growth of the business.
Acting as Employer’s Representative and Contract Administrator on project finance issues.
Feasibility Studies, Plant replacement works; Net Zero Carbon and other green energy initiatives.
Planned Maintenance (Replacement) Programmes.
Project management / Project Monitoring of works including Cat A and B fit-outs.
 
Key Tasks:
 
Provide technical project management and advisory services to our clients in respect of the building services engineering services in commercial and public sector properties.
Deliver high end projects in commercial offices and shopping centres as well as public sector properties.
 
Management Tasks:
 
Assist with the management of a team of technical staff delivering the services and developing professional relationships with staff to their full potential.
Demonstrate sound financial management and provide works planning and direction.
Assist with the development of management systems.
Develop and build professional relationships with clients.
Assist the growth of the business.
Promote the Projects division with existing Clients and potential new Clients.
 
Technical Tasks:
 
Write clear and concise reports and case studies and present reports to clients.
Carry out refurbishment and fit-out project management (from feasibility stage to tender documentation, tender analysis, recommendations to clients right through to finalising contract documents, monitoring works up to end of defects liability and handover to client). Carry out project financial management throughout the work.
Monitor the contractor performance on carrying out projects and minor works and monitor and agree financial expenditure.
Carry out pre-acquisition surveys, condition surveys and present findings to clients. Inspect and audit plant and equipment to ensure the services are operating efficiently and recommend improvements.
Advise on Tenants alterations, and landlord approvals and works required, review contractor’s quotes and ensure the works are undertaken at competitive market rates.
Review progress on any Landlord or Tenant works and their impact on the operation of the property.
Examine maintenance records, carry out checks on contractor invoices to ensure value for money.
Review Statutory Examination Reports and ensure that clients are properly advised of statutory obligations.
Advise Client and Tenants on compliance with current regulations, British Standards and statutory obligations.
Arrange chair/attend meetings with clients and facilities managers and the appointed contractors to review their performance, additional works and any landlord or tenant related matters.
Respond to ad-hoc enquiries and provide advice on the implementation of plant replacement programmes, associated budget requirements, prioritisation, works planning etc.
Prepare tender documentation and obtain competitive tenders and tender analysis reports. Produce maintenance contract documentation.
Review Templates for products and update to comply with current standards and legislation.
