Quality Engineer

Newton Abbot

Up to £32K + Annual Bonus + Overtime (OTE £38K+)

I am working with a specialist business with a wide range of engineering operations including: manufacturing, design, repair, service, installation and supply. This thriving business are on the look out for a CI and Quality Engineer.

This will suit an individual wanting to work within a fast paced, diverse environment. The Quality Engineer role involves supporting the business in all aspects of continuous improvement and quality control.

The organisation is accredited to ISO 9001:2015 and therefore a full understanding of this standard is essential. The business has long established relationship with Ministry of Defence customer and offer product supply and manufacture to this sector – so ideally you will have understanding of Defence standards – DefStan, QASOR, but this is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the business management system is updated & stays compliant with all accreditations / certifications including ISO9001:2015
  • Liaise with Defence customers on a regular basis to build on relationship and take proactive approach towards preparation of documentation packs for defence orders in line with various standards or requirement i.e. DefStan or QASOR.
  • Rectify any NCR’s highlighted by external auditing
  • Ensure that all inspection equipment is calibrated both in-house and externally to the required standards
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers regarding any non conformance and ensure timely close out of any NCR’s
  • Complete any 5 WHY’s or 8 D’s for customer non conformance, to include root cause analysis, problem solving and implement corrective actions using recognised techniques
  • Lead internal non conformance reporting and drive the required changes
  • Conduct internal audits, highlight issues and implement plans to rectify these issues
  • Provide quality reports / data to senior management on a monthly basis
  • Check sales orders prior to dispatch to ensure that all customer requirements are being met
  • Attend customer or supplier compliance visits / audits and action outcomes
  • Inspect key items on arrival, this includes measurement and visual checks for damage
  • Monitor and implement changes to ensure that company KPI’s are achieved
  • Identify and highlight OFI’s (opportunities for improvement) across the business
  • Involvement in design reviews to identify area of improvement

Required Experience

  • A thorough understanding of ISO9001:2015
  • Well organised and with an eye for detail.
  • Experienced in following/maintaining quality systems and processes
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A reasonable understanding of hydraulic /pneumatic drawings is desirable.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of engineering components such as pumps, valves, motors, and other Fluidpower products.
  • Understanding of Defence standards i.e. DefStan, QASOR.
