P+S Personnel are pleased to be working on behalf of our clients who are currently seeking a Chief Executive to join their team based in Great Yarmouth on a full time, permanent basis.

Main Responsibilities:

Through leadership and support of the trustees and executive team you will oversee the continued development of an exciting and nurturing Skills & Activities Centre (S&AC).

It is critical that the new Chief Executive understands the symbiotic relationship between the S&AC and CTS.

The new Chief Executive will develop strong links with all stakeholders, including patrons, community leaders, funding partners, grant providers, business leaders, councillors and the regional media.

Work with people within a wide range of disabilities, including physical, sensory and learning challenges.

Focus on Skills & Activities Centre members to ensure that each person has access to the support they need to achieve their aspirations.

Promote individuality and the importance of working from a person-centred perspective.

Drive engagement to create an environment in which members, volunteers and staff can demonstrate it is Ability not Disability that matters.

Develop talents to help all at the charity to develop their skills and abilities to ‘get more out of life’.

Communication skills for clarity of thought and action and verbalise these as required.

Instil trust to gain the confidence of all stakeholders through honesty, integrity and authenticity, and through personal impact and presence.

Decision making to make good and timely decisions to maintain the charity as a vibrant place.

To work with the executive team to build a sound business foundation on which to operate.

Establish with all those involved with the charity, a shared vision and communicate this with all stakeholders.

Strategic thinking and planning to develop the role and implement its strategic vision.

Leadership skills that motivate, challenge and inspire the board of trustees and the executive team to create a positive and inclusive community.

Establish clear policies and practices, and monitoring and evaluating their impact.

Promote a learning culture for all staff taking into account their appetite and capacity for gaining formal learning qualifications.

Manage all aspects of the charities services and be open to exploring with trustees and executive team diversification to add strength to offer and increase annual revenue.

Work with the executive team to monitor the financial activity of the charity and to seek ways of increasing core revenue income via service diversification.

Undertake bid writing for revenue and capital funding.

Undertake charity self-evaluation, including agreed inputs, outputs and outcomes, to monitor progress and achievements.

Undertake supervision and annual appraisals to support staff with their responsibilities and accountabilities.

Review the business plan so that it remains relevant and continues to capture the ambitions and progress of the ways to develop and embrace diversity, challenge prejudice and work with members and staff to dismantle barriers of discrimination.

Enhance the value of the charity by continuing to seek ways for the charity to be part of the wider community and for the wider community to be part of the charity.

Qualifications and Experience:

You will have a strong understanding of budgeting and fundraising, including grant applications and sponsorship, and will work with the trustee board and the executive team to ensure that the organisation’s finances are managed effectively and within budget.

The right candidate for this position may come from the business sector, another charity, a local authority or a health-related organisation.

Positive leadership with demonstrable outcomes for service beneficiaries.

Experience of leading organisations through transition. (Desirable)

Experience of managing organisations delivering front line services to beneficiaries. (Desirable)

Evidence of commitment to continual professional development.

Evidence of effective leadership and management.

Understanding that working with members from a person-centred perspective can unlock untapped potential. (Desirable)

Evidence of the ability to build and develop good relationships with adults who have a wide range of disabilities, their family carers, volunteers and the wider community, showing the emotional intelligence and integrity to win the trust of others.

Understanding of the law and operational requirements of running a charity, including reporting requirements to the Charity Commission and Company House. 

The ability to develop a working knowledge of legislation relating to Day Opportunities, including The Care Act 2014. (Desirable)

Understanding of the legislative requirements of running a Community Transport Service, particularly S.19. of the Local Transport Acts. (Desirable)

Appreciating that many Charity members who have a tough life with strict routines to manage their health look forward to the fun, laughter and spontaneity that is at the heart of Charity offer.

Ability to work with trustees/directors and staff to develop a strategic vision for the next chapter in the Charities ability to provide services to the residents in the Borough of Great Yarmouth. 

Commitment to developing positive networks and creating new opportunities for partnership and collaboration.

An understanding of the importance of change management strategies and the ability to use this to support all involved with Charity to embrace and benefit from change.

Experience of raising standards with measurable outcomes and a good working knowledge of comparative data. This should include the ability to interpret and share the data with others.

Person Specification:

Excellent organisational skills

An understanding of the challenges faced by people with a disability.

Team management, finance experience and good communication skills.

Resourcefulness to secure resources and use them effectively and efficiently.

Planning to be able to prepare and prioritise work to meet commitments.

Working Hours:

37.5 hours per week

33 days holiday pa including Bank Holidays

Pension: Employee – 4% and Employer – 3%
