Title: Technical Solutions Engineer

The Technical Solution Engineer is a member of the Technical Solutions Department. The main responsibility of the Technical Solutions Engineering is to develop concept designs in line with a customer enquiry. This position will include estimating costs for the enquiry, and writing a proposal to support the final solution. There will elements of customer correspondence and meetings both in house, via virtual communication and/or on site visits.

Report: Technical Solutions Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering concept designs to support the technical solution for all enquiries.
  • Support the project team with developing costs for project variations when required.
  • Assist Technical Solutions team with larger commercial projects as part of a team.
  • Maintain the enquiry and forecast report for weekly sales meetings. Enter new enquiries into the Enquiry folder. 

Customer:

  • Follow-up on any sales leads that are received and assigned by management
  • Attend customer meetings (via virtual methods or on site) to determine scope of project and review RFQ. 
  • Correspond with customer to clarify any questions about potential project, enquiry or RFQ including project dates or any other issues that could affect the project costs and delivery.
  • Communicate to Technical Solutions Manager or senior management, the scope of potential project, deadlines, equipment selection and other criteria associated with potential projects.

Design:

  • Develop concept designs (layout and equipment) for small commercial projects to be used for estimating costs and be included in the sales proposal.
  • Develop concept layout designs for larger commercial projects. (2D and/or 3D) to be used for estimating costs and be included in the sales proposals
  • Knowledge of standard and bespoke equipment to be used within the concept design.
  • Source equipment from OEM supplier including individual components used in equipment design
  • Development of alternative solutions after consultation with Technical Solution Manager or senior management.
  • Coordinate design review with management upon completion of concept design. 
  • Write the initial FDS to support the concept design.  

Estimating:

  • Validate the technical aspects of the project including project schedule, high elevation drive calculations, cycle times and overall performance of the equipment
  • Complete the estimate costs for small commercial projects less than £250K using the estimate template 
  • Complete estimate costs for individual bespoke equipment to be included within a large commercial project using the estimating template.  
  • Estimate the equipment costs using the latest components costs. Ensure the estimate sheet is updated with current rates and costs associated directly with the timing plan and/or delivery schedule to the customer.
  • Ensure all information supplied to external suppliers is the same and all receive the same information. This could be via a RFQ associated with the enquiry.
  • Coordinate internal review meeting upon completion of estimate with management for sales margin approval prior to including in the proposal.

Proposal: (Small enquiries less than £250K)

  • Write proposals or letters of offer using the current template.
  • Proposal must demonstrate solution including external supplier content and be in line with customers’ requirements.
  • Proposals must demonstrate how we will install and control the delivery and installation of the project
  • Proposal must include any caveats, exclusion, final acceptance, on site safety, final documentation, Terms & Conditions, etc.

Position Requirements:

  • Fluent in English both written and oral.
  • 10 years’ experience in Material Handling (Logistics & Warehousing, Automotive) engineering minimum with 5 years’ experience engineering or sales (Logistics & Warehousing, Automotive)
  • Strong technical background in either mechanical and/or electrical/controls engineering
  • Strong ACAD /Inventor/ Solidworks or similar software experience
  • Practical knowledge of equipment design, logistics warehousing, conveyors, automation and/or practical knowledge electrical/controls
