About the role:

The role of a test engineer involves working to evaluate and test products primarily for safety, efficiency, fit for purpose or for bespoke customer requirements.

You will be ensuring products successfully pass testing, providing confidence that products are up to the required standard, and allowing market distribution of certified products for our global clients.

As a test engineer with BSI, your role will involve carrying out test work on a defined range of electrical & electronic products to agreed quality, standards, and timescales. Upon completion of test work, you’ll need to write up clear, accurate and complete test reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertakes electrical/electronic test work across a wide range of electrical appliances and equipment.
  • Product testing in line with standards, procedures, or client needs.
  • Maintain traceable records & results.
  • Produce quality test reports in a timely manner or project status reports as requested.
  • Liaise with calibration department on the maintenance and use of the correct equipment to carry out testing.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in the Lab, office with all electronics data storage.
  • Report and escalate issues in testing which impact performance or quality of results.
  • To liaise with clients and advise on the status of work to facilitate premier customer service & on-time delivery on all work and projects.
  • Respond to customer queries and provide technical support.
  • Develop technical skills to enhance own skills & ability to carry out testing work across a wide variety of laboratories, equipment and standards or client bespoke requirements.
  • Conduct client visits (on-site and offsite, possibly one visit a month, UK, Europe, World) as required.
  • Operate in line with quality and safety procedures to ensure compliance with the organisation’s and legislative requirements and the requirements of ISO 17025
  • Support local and global teams to drive growth & improvement for PC business globally.

Key Skills & Experience Required:

  • Qualified in an electrical or electronics discipline with the experience to work safely across live electrical & electronics.
  • Experience in using electrical test & measurement equipment including multi meters, oscilloscopes, flash testers, earth/resistance testers etc.
  • Equivalent industry experience in a test environment.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as an individual or as part of a team, to tight time scales.
  • Good level of computer literacy and working knowledge of MS Office or equivalent.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Positive customer focused approach to work and communication with colleagues
  • Solutions orientated, support change with a can-do approach.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Qualification to HNC/HND/BEng (or equivalent) standard within an electrical/electronic discipline.
  • Knowledge/exposure within an ISO 17025 Lab Accredited environment is advantageous.
  • Knowledge or familiarity of operating within a lean culture and use of lean tools is advantageous.
