About the RoleMy client is seeking a Full Stack Developer to build and maintain public-facing websites and support applications/APIs. Working in small, cross-functional agile teams, the developer will deliver business value regularly.This role is based in a department that is key to delivering on strategic objectives. They manage and support systems that enhance the customer experience. The location will be the head office in Swindon, with hybrid working arrangements. The organisation is a large UK-based charity that specialises in preservation and conservation.

ResponsibilitiesAs the Software Developer, the successful candidate will architect and implement new features and technologies. Agile teams are proud of their quality products, and 'quality is everything' is a principle they must demonstrate. The developer will care about the user's experience and ensure products are accessible. Collaborating with the UI/UX designer, they will turn designs into production-ready features. They will deliver changes across the full software stack, from front-end Typescript React applications, Java/Spring microservices, a range of databases, to AWS cloud infrastructure and services. They will assist with the maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with the WebOps team to build new cloud infrastructure or troubleshoot production incidents. Keeping up to date with the latest industry trends and learning new skills will be part of the role.

To excel in the role, you'll need

  • Experience with Agile Software Delivery and working in a highly collaborative and cross-functional Agile environment.
  • Background on developing and maintaining web-based product solutions with a focus on quality, performance, reliability, scalability, and resiliency.
  • Knowledge and experience of using software engineering tools and best practices.
  • Core Technical Experience:
    • 3+ years of Java 11+ enterprise web development
    • Spring, REST/GraphQL APIs, and Microservices
    • Modern web frameworks (e.g., React single page apps, Javascript/Typescript)
    • Containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes)
    • Database technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Mongo, Postgres)
    • Maven, Git, and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins)
    • Atlassian Product suite includes Jira, Bitbucket, and Confluence
  • Building and architecting cloud-native applications (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, Serverless, Event-driven architectures)
  • Reviewing team members' code
  • Unit, Functional, and Integration Testing
  • Familiarity with BDD and Cucumber and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana
